UMassFive was the recent recipient of a 2022 Gold Community Champion Award from Banking Northeast magazine in the category of Civic Involvement. The award recognizes the Credit Union’s overall philanthropic efforts. Banking Northeast established the Community Champion Awards to highlight credit unions and community banks that create unique community partnerships, go beyond the call of duty to aid their community in special times of need, and demonstrate what their institution’s cumulative effort means to their communities. The Civic Involvement award was presented to UMassFive for our “A Community You Can Count On” campaign, which provides value to non-profit organizations within each of the communities the Credit Union serves and also encourages a similar community spirit within UMassFive employees and members.

Some of our recent community involvement initiatives include:

  • Providing a check for $500 towards field hockey equipment to the lucky winner of our National Girls & Women in Sports Day social media contest, held in conjunction with UMass Women’s Basketball.
  • Displaying artwork at our Hadley Branch to help support a virtual fundraising auction on behalf of the Northampton Community Music Center.
  • Donating over 145 lunches to employees working at the UMass Memorial University Campus ER and Baystate Mason Square Neighborhood Health Center.
  • A group of UMassFive employees marching in the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade, presenting the Expandable Brass Band.
  • Participation in WRSI/The River’s Book Bus drive. Used and new children’s books were collected for Reader to Reader, the Amherst-based nonprofit that helps increase literacy by getting books to underfunded schools, libraries in low-income communities, and Native American reservations. This year’s collection of books were presented to local children in Springfield.
